Collaborative Law

A SMARTER WAY TO DIVORCE

Divorce doesn’t have to be a battle. Collaborative Law is a structured, out-of-court process that helps couples resolve their divorce with dignity, integrity, and respect. This approach provides a team-based alternative to litigation, allowing couples to work together with trained professionals to create fair and lasting agreements—without the stress, expense, and emotional toll of going to court.

How Collaborative Law Works

At Integrative Divorce Mediation, we understand that family law matters can be overwhelming and emotionally taxing. Our team of compassionate attorneys is here to help you every step of the way. We have extensive experience handling a wide range of family law matters, including divorce, child custody, support, and adoption. Our goal is to provide our clients with effective representation that achieves the best possible outcome for their situation.

In a Collaborative Divorce, each party has their own Collaboratively-trained attorney, and the process includes neutral professionals who help facilitate discussions, guide decision-making, and ensure that both financial and emotional considerations are addressed.

The key principles of Collaborative Law include:
No Court Involvement – Both spouses and their attorneys sign an agreement committing to resolve all issues outside of court.
Confidential & Respectful – Discussions happen in a private setting, allowing for open and honest communication.
Custom-Tailored Solutions – The team works together to craft agreements that meet the unique needs of both parties and their families.

Who Is Involved in the Process?

Collaborative Attorneys

Each spouse has their own Collaborative attorney, who provides legal advice, advocates for their client’s needs, and ensures that agreements are legally sound. Unlike in litigation, Collaborative attorneys focus on problem-solving rather than adversarial tactics—helping clients reach solutions that work for both parties.

Divorce Coach (Mental Health Professional or Coach)

The Divorce Coach helps manage the emotional side of the process. This professional is trained to support both spouses in effective communication, conflict resolution, and emotional regulation—ensuring that discussions remain productive and solutions-focused. In some cases, each spouse may have their own coach, or a single neutral coach may assist both parties.

Financial Neutral

The Financial Neutral is a financial professional who gathers, organizes, and analyzes financial information for both spouses. They help clarify assets, debts, income, and expenses, ensuring that both parties have a clear understanding of their financial picture. The financial neutral also provides guidance on tax implications, property division, and long-term financial planning to help couples reach fair and sustainable agreements.

Why Choose Collaborative Law?

  • Preserves Relationships – Ideal for co-parents or those who want to maintain an amicable relationship post-divorce.
  • More Control Over Outcomes – Instead of leaving decisions in the hands of a judge, you and your spouse create solutions that work best for your unique situation.
  • Less Stress & Cost-Effective – Avoids the financial and emotional costs of prolonged court battles.
  • Holistic Approach – Supports both the legal and emotional aspects of divorce, making the transition smoother.
